Sacrament of Reconciliation

A Guide to Confession and God's Healing Grace

The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also called Confession or Penance, is one of the most beautiful gifts Jesus gave to His Church. Through this sacrament, God offers us His infinite mercy and forgiveness. No matter how serious our sins, Jesus is always ready to welcome us back with open arms.

"Jesus said to them again, 'Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.' And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.'" (John 20:21-23)

Steps of Confession

Guidance:

Take a moment to quiet your mind and heart. Recognize that God's mercy is infinite and He desires your healing and reconciliation.

Suggested Prayer:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Come, Holy Spirit, fill my heart and help me to confess my sins with true contrition.

Examination of Conscience

Reflect on these questions based on the Ten Commandments and Jesus's teachings. Consider how you may have failed to love God and your neighbor.

Reconciliation Prayers

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. And also with you.

Remember, Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a gift of Jesus's love and mercy. Every time you confess, you are experiencing His healing grace and returning to His embrace.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)
